Well in case you don't know yet, the dude who cut of that poor soul's head on the bus in Manitoba has been found not criminally responsible.

Money quote: Two psychiatrists testified that he is schizophrenic and was hearing a voice he believed was God ordering him to kill McLean because the young man was a force of evil. [emphasis mine].

Well, Vince Li is off to a mental institution, where it is extremely unlikely that he will ever see the light of day ever again. I really don't have time to watch the news on this, nor do I have time to gauge public opinion, so I'll just make some sweeping generalizations:

1. I hope that the fact that he is mentally ill is not pushed or if not that sincerely hope that people do not equate schizophrenia with likely to cut off my head and mutilate the remains. This is an extreme case.
2. I hope that people do not perceive "being found not criminally responsible" as got off scot free.
3. I hope people will refrain from making amateur diagnoses about disturbed individuals the next time a sensational crime like this happens.
   

Yes, Yes I know, I'm tarring people with as much a brush as I feel myself being tarred. Well, ok, but you've never been in a classroom where people have suggested they shouldn't hire a schizophrenic professor because "he might do something." or "go crazy." Plus I'm tired and I didn't want to deal with this today.
